Accessibility Statement

Key fixes / additions

  • WCAG 2.2 AA (supersedes 2.1; say “meet or exceed 2.1 AA and implement 2.2 AA where feasible”).

  • Auslan, not ASL (Australia). You can still say “other languages on request.”

  • Add an Accessibility Coordinator with email + phone and a grievance/escalation path.

  • Add virtual accessibility (live captions/CART, slide access 48 h before, keyboard navigation of platform, dial-in numbers).

  • Clarify hearing support (hearing loop/IR where available; CART/live captions for plenaries).

  • Add mobility & stage access (ramps to stage, adjustable lectern/mics, wheelchair viewing areas).

  • Add emergency & evacuation assistance plan and way-finding (high-contrast signage).

  • Note companion/carer passes and service-animal relief area.

  • Add dietary/allergen labeling and (optional) low-fragrance guidance.

  • Give a response time for requests (ack in 2 business days; confirm plan by a date).

  • Keep the third-party content note, but add exhibitor/vendor accessibility expectations.

Accessibility Statement — MiBAN 2026 (SciViD)
Last updated: [DD MMM 2025]
MiBAN 2026 is organized by the SciViD conference team. We are committed to making our event and online materials accessible to all participants, including people with disabilities. Our goal is equitable access to information, sessions, networking, and publication opportunities across onsite and virtual experiences.
Our standards and approach

  • We aim to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA and are progressively implementing WCAG 2.2 AA across the conference website, submission portal, registration, and digital proceedings, following WAI-ARIA best practices.

  • We continuously review pages and documents for keyboard navigation, colour contrast, semantic structure, focus order, and screen-reader compatibility.

Accessibility coordination & contact

  • Accessibility Coordinator: [Name], access@scividjournal.com / +61 [phone].

  • We acknowledge requests within 2 business days and aim to confirm an accommodation plan no later than 7 days after acknowledgment.

Website & digital content

  • Alt text for meaningful images; descriptive link text; logical heading order; skip-to-content links and visible focus indicators.

  • Accessible documents (tagged PDFs/PDF/UA or HTML alternatives).

  • Captions/transcripts for pre-recorded videos; live captions/CART for streamed plenaries (and other sessions on request).

  • If you encounter any barrier online, we will provide the content in an alternative format (HTML, large-print PDF, or plain text) while we remediate the issue.

Virtual participation accessibility

  • Platform supports keyboard navigation and screen readers; dial-in numbers available.

  • Live captions/CART provided for plenaries; speakers are encouraged to share accessible slides 48 h in advance.

  • Chat/Q&A moderation accommodates screen-reader users (questions can be emailed in advance).

Venue & on-site accessibility

  • Step-free routes to session rooms where feasible, with reserved wheelchair seating and clear aisles.

  • Accessible restrooms; elevator access (venue-dependent).

  • Hearing support: induction hearing loops or IR systems where available; CART/live captions for plenaries; other sessions on request.

  • Stage & lectern: ramp or lift access; adjustable lectern and microphone heights.

  • Quiet/low-stimulus room and lactation/prayer room (locations in the program).

  • Service animals welcome per venue policy; a relief area will be indicated.

  • Exhibits/demos must maintain clear paths and comply with safety and accessibility guidelines.

  • Way-finding: high-contrast signage; staff/volunteers available for escort on request.

Presenters

  • Slides with high contrast, readable fonts, SI units, descriptive titles; avoid colour-only meaning and flashing content.

  • Describe key visuals verbally; provide captions or narration scripts for videos.

  • Share slide decks 48 h in advance for accessibility conversion on request.

Companion/carer access

  • Registered participants who require assistance may request a companion/carer pass (subject to venue capacity and safety requirements).

Dietary needs & sensitivities

  • We provide dietary labels (e.g., GF/V/DF/halal/kosher) and allergen information at catering points.

  • We aim to maintain a low-fragrance environment; please avoid strong scents.

Emergency procedures

  • Emergency and evacuation plans include assistance for wheelchair users and others who may need support. Ask staff for your nearest refuge point and accessible egress route.

Requesting accommodations
To request Auslan interpretation (or other languages), additional seating space, accessible transport guidance, materials in alternative formats, or other support, contact access@scividjournal.com with subject “Accessibility”.

  • Preferred lead time: 14 days before Day 1 of the conference (we will do our best with late requests).

Feedback and issue reporting
If you experience any accessibility problem onsite or online, email access@scividjournal.com or see the registration/help desk. We will acknowledge within 2 business days and work toward timely resolution.
Third-party content
Some linked resources or exhibitor materials are produced by third parties. While we cannot control those platforms, we will assist in obtaining accessible versions where possible and ask partners to meet accessibility expectations.
Continuous improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We review this statement and our practices regularly and will update them as the conference evolves.

What web accessibility is

Web accessibility means people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with our websites and digital content; we design MiBAN 2026 to be usable by everyone.

Accessibility adjustments on this site

We aim to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA (progressing toward 2.2 AA) across the site, submission portal, registration, and proceedings. Measures include: keyboard-navigable pages with visible focus order; logical headings and landmarks; descriptive link text and alt text; tagged/accessible PDFs or HTML alternatives; captions/transcripts for recorded videos and live captions/CART for streamed plenaries; skip-to-content links; and colour-contrast that meets AA. If you hit a barrier, we’ll provide an alternative format while we fix it.

  •

Declaration of partial compliance with the standard due to third-party content

Some features rely on third parties outside our direct control (e.g., Wix hosting, Stripe/PayPal/Wix Payments for checkout, Zoom/Teams for virtual sessions, YouTube/Vimeo for video, Google Maps embeds, and form/abstract tools). While we select vendors with strong accessibility practices, individual components may not fully meet WCAG in all circumstances. We will assist you in obtaining accessible alternatives where possible.

Accessibility arrangements in the organization

Venue details are TBA (Brisbane, Australia). Our minimum commitments include step-free routes to session rooms where feasible, reserved wheelchair seating, accessible restrooms, hearing support (hearing loop/IR where available; CART for plenaries), stage/lectern access, quiet/low-stimulus and lactation/prayer rooms, clearly marked high-contrast wayfinding, and availability of companion/carer passes. When the venue is confirmed, we will publish a detailed access guide (entrances, lifts, drop-off points, parking, room layouts, and emergency procedures).
